It was just a simple mistake. Someone got numbers jumbled in their head. My name is Paul Corbin, a resident of Rancho Cucamonga, Ca. who ran and completed this years Trail Race. I was given race bib number 78. Unfortunately, someone replaced my age, 37 , with my number 78. I do appreciate the special notice and acknowledgements, but I am not entitled to them. I hope someone can correct this, not for myself, but so hopefully the TRUE oldest runner will get proper credit and accomodations. We should all give the Race Committee and all the volenteers involved a great big THANKS for another great day of fun in the hills. See you next year. paulcorbin@earthlink.net

May I suggest that you look for culture at Foothill Creative Arts Group, Sierra Madre Playhouse, Beantown, Peppertree Grill, and if you're old enough, Tailgators and the Buccaneer. Lizzie's Trail Inn, Whalen Sculpture Garden, the Wistaria Festival, The Friends of the Library Art Fair, Pioneer Days. Harlequin Gallery, Creative Framing, Eastwicke Village, The Spinning Wheel. Restaurant Lozano. Actually, even the photos on the wall at Century 21 and Village Realty show some of the diverse history and the culture this town has and or had to offer. Sierra Madre Woman's Club offers culture at its fashion show and its annual member's tea, among other things. While you may not appreciate the culture, or it may not appeal to you, it is culture none the less. There may come a day somewhere down the road, where this type of culture may have more appeal to you, and you will be glad that you have seen it. And even if not, you will have exposed yourself to culture that you don't like. And that in itself is a learning experience which will help you to feel more passionately about the types of culture that you DO like. So I guess what I'm saying is that the presence of culture you don't like isn't an absence of culture; so to say that there is no culture is erroneous. And I also have to say that there is art/culture that I appreciate, but don't like. So maybe you want to try to look at it from a different perspective, i.e., appreciation vs. liking. But I can also understand why someone who is younger would not appreciate some of the culture that does exist in this town, and that I'd sure like to see this town, while continuing to recognize and promote the culture that has traditionally been represented in it, expand to include more culture that appeals to the younger set. Perhaps you'd like to approach the Arts Commission with a proposal to stimulate Arts activity among the youth of this town. I know several of the members of the commission, and I think they'd be very open to it. But they have restrictions, both monetarily and administratively, that will require patience and understanding on your part. They do not move at the pace of those who approach them, they move at the pace that is required by their administrative restrictions, financial restrictions, and for that matter, prudent thought, require. It might be helpful if your proposal included potential ways to fund itself. I hope you'll open your eyes to more of what this town has to offer, by expanding your horizons and appreciation of things that are not exactly your usual, to use an old person's expression, cup of tea. When I was a kid, I said you don't listen to Led Zeppelin, you experience it. You couldn't get me to listen to country or classical. Yet today, I recognize the talent and/or skill (yes there's a difference) exhibited by those who perform those genres. And while they are not my favorite styles of music, I appreciate them, and in some cases, like them. And I do listen to them, now.
