Here is a riddle for your eyes and mind: Who makes more money than a bus-boy but less money than a maid? How about the Sierra Madre Police Officers! I know this is a sensitive issue, after-all, what isn’t now a days? But the point is whether you are for the Officers or against the Officers the way the city council justifies spending is ridiculous and ludicrous. I think that it is fare to say that you don’t encounter a Sierra Madre Police Officer unless you are looking for an encounter. There is no reason for them to just walk up into your house and go inside without probable cause, it is insane to think otherwise. I am so glade that the city council members are able to justify the fact that the Police Officers don’t need an increase in pay, just because our own council members and other public officials don’t make as much “money” as other officials from neighboring cities. Does it seem right to everyone that a full Presidential Term has gone by, our economy down the tubes, and these officers are still making what they made 4 ½ years ago??? There are people out there, especially on the city council such as Mr. Stockly, Mr. Maurer and Ms. Torres, who believe that the Officers (Veterans) don’t deserve a dime because they aren’t certified. Interesting considering that it takes 12 years to earn a certification. What a paradox, the city council won’t give the Officers the benefits to go to school and get certified and the Officers can’t afford to go to school on their own. So what is the solution? If it was entirely up to the city council (and at this point it seems to be), the Officers would only get a raise every 12 years. Although the city council doesn’t see anything wrong with this, it appears that they want those “old timers” out of the police station to bring in new, unqualified, and underpaid rookies. I’ll tell you right now that is going to be the most pleasant experience in the world to have new rookies every 6 months passing through Sierra Madre, on their tour of duty, with their finger on the trigger, handing out tickets day and night (because that is the only way it seems they can make a revenue in order to get paid more). But of course this is the way that it has to be, because citizens of Sierra Madre are too lazy and don’t want to travel 3 miles to go to the Arcadia Library or Pasadena Library to check out Dante’s Inferno, they want to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on renovating and improving our own Sierra Madre library, yet not add a single book? What is the reasoning for this? I went to school in Sierra Madre and I seem to remember that the only way to get a school report done and get a good library book is to go outside of Sierra Madre because that library is only used for your tax forms and afternoon tea. It seems like the library should be at the bottom of the list and not the Police Officers. I am so glade that the bureaucrats can find no other way to waste money or make money; just throwing money down the tubes with all the special events this city has to offer, but for some reason can’t seem to think of a way to make a single dime? Not even charging those bicyclists a starting fee for crowding the streets on the weekends, a farmers market, or even better yet raise the property tax (but why would the City Council want to increase their own property tax, they might not be able to afford to live here then? So while the Police Officers are basically commuting from areas that no one in Sierra Madre would be seen near with a twenty foot flag pole, to protect the citizens; City Council Members get to go home at night and sleep in their nice comfortable beds without money worries or any other type of problems that exist outside of their own reality of perception. I thank the City Council Members for their effortless work at ensuring that the needs of everyone in Sierra Madre are fulfilled, but perhaps the council members should switch places with the Officers for a day (I’m sure the officers won’t mind living in a $500,000 home for a day). So remember that teenager at Domino's, is making more money than the people that are here to Protect and Serve this community. Thank You The Writer
