Posted 2\/26\/13 – \u00a0<\/em>John Peters, a barista at Bean Town for more than two years, passed away Sunday, at the far too young age of 23.\u00a0 Peters collapsed while working Saturday night, and was rushed to the hospital.\u00a0 He held on long enough for his parents to arrive from out of town, but passed away Sunday.\u00a0 There has been a remarkable outpouring of love and friendship for Peters, with Bean Town closing to the public for most of Sunday and all of Monday.\u00a0 Friends and family gathered at Bean Town, many of them staying through the night to pay their respects and reminisce about their friend.\u00a0 We\u2019ll have more on John\u2019s life, and information about memorial services when it becomes available. In the meantime, Bean Town is hosting a fundraiser to help defray the cost of his funeral.\u00a0 Friday night from 6:30 to 10pm, an auction featuring live music will be held at Bean Town, with proceeds to benefit their longtime employee. \u00a0From \u00a0Bean Town’s Facebook page: “Because he meant so much to so many we will be having a benefit this Friday night, March 1, at Bean Town in Sierra Madre to help John’s family with expenses relating to his tragic passing. We will have coffee and treats, live music, and a silent auction to raise money for the family. Please tell everyone to come support the Peters family and John’s wonderful girlfriend Alicia Vessey during this difficult time.” Arrangements are being made to accommodate all who show up (the parking lot will be utilized, as well), with special thanks to Arcadia Party Rentals and Athens Services who are assisting with accommodating the large crowd that is expected.\u00a0 Anyone who would like to attend to pay their respects or share a memory is invited to do so, and if you can contribute, as well, that would be most appreciated. \u00a0We’re told that many residents and businesses have already donated auction items, but more will always be welcomed and appreciated. \u00a0Anyone who would like to participate with a donation of a piece of art or auction item, is asked to contact Matt at Bean Town, (626) 355-1596.
