{"id":13826,"date":"2013-05-28T22:04:47","date_gmt":"2013-05-29T05:04:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sierramadrenews.net\/?p=13826"},"modified":"2013-05-28T22:04:47","modified_gmt":"2013-05-29T05:04:47","slug":"2013-kids-fun-run-warm-up-and-finish-video","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.sierramadrenews.net\/?p=13826","title":{"rendered":"2013 Kids Fun Run Warm-up and Finish Video"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Posted 5\/28\/13 &#8211;<\/em>\u00a0Since 2006 , in addition to the Trail Race, there is a kid\u2019s race run that is run separately, called the Kid\u2019s Fun Run. \u00a0In this, the eighth running of the race, there were two separate divisions, one for kids 3 to 6, and another for kids 7 to 12. \u00a0The race is sponsored by CATZ of Pasadena and the Sierra Madre Community Foundation. \u00a0The younger kids do a half-mile run (up Baldwin to Laurel), and the older kids run a mile (up to Mira Monte and back). \u00a0Before the race, members of the CATZ staff (and other volunteers) warm the kids up with stretching exercises, and all the participating kids get ribbons and t-shirts. \u00a0The older kids get started first, since they have a longer way to go. \u00a0This means that a really quick youngster running the shorter distance can actually be the first one to cross the line, as happened this year. \u00a0I believe Lisa said he was a 6-year old, named Will. \u00a0You can see that in the video, at about the 2:15 mark.<\/p>\n<div>While we\u2019re on the subject of t-shirts, this year, for the second year, there\u2019s has been a t-shirt design contest for the fun run, where local kids are encouraged to submit their designs and a winner is picked to put on the Fun Run t-shirts. \u00a0Submitted pieces of artwork had to include a depiction of Mount Wilson in their design. \u00a0this year\u2019s winner was Sierra Madre\u00a0Elementary School student Christine Manoukian, who titled her work \u201cKid\u2019s Run.\u201d \u00a0Christine was recognized at Saturday\u2019s event, as well. \u00a0Her design was chosen by the Trail Race Committee from about twenty submittals.<\/div>\n<p>As promised, I&#8217;ve now posted some higher resolution images than what I posted Saturday immediately after the race (a lot more). \u00a0They can be found here.
