{"id":1697,"date":"2011-05-11T16:25:11","date_gmt":"2011-05-11T23:25:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sierramadrenews.net\/?p=1697"},"modified":"2011-05-11T17:50:10","modified_gmt":"2011-05-12T00:50:10","slug":"invest-in-pusd-kids-iipk-sponsors-meeting-to-build-support-for-pusd","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.sierramadrenews.net\/?p=1697","title":{"rendered":"Invest In PUSD Kids (IIPK) Sponsors Meeting To Build Support For PUSD"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sierramadrenews.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/investinkidslogo.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1704\" title=\"investinkidslogo\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sierramadrenews.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/investinkidslogo.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"167\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.sierramadrenews.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/investinkidslogo.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.sierramadrenews.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/investinkidslogo-150x83.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Invest in PUSD Kids (IIPK) \u2013 an organization of parents, teachers, and community supporters of public education \u2013 will hold its\u00a0annual\u00a0 Community Meeting\u00a0 on Wednesday, May 18<sup>th <\/sup>\u00a0at 6:30\u00a0\u00a0 p.m. at the Corner Bakery Plaza, 345 South Lake Avenue in Pasadena.\u00a0 This gathering\u00a0 will provide participants with opportunities to learn about and get involved in efforts to support public education in Pasadena, Altadena, and Sierra Madre.<\/p>\n<p>At the 90-minute forum will, IIPK leaders will discuss the\u00a0 initiatives currently underway.<\/p>\n<p>These include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Buy-in PUSD campaign that encourages local consumers to patronize businesses that support public schools.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.buyinpusd.com\/\">http:\/\/www.buyinpusd.com\/<\/a>,<\/li>\n<li>The 8<sup>th<\/sup> Guiding Principal campaign to get the City of Pasadena to make public schools a citywide priority as part of the update to its Master Plan <a href=\"http:\/\/investinpusdkids.org\/8thGuidingPrincipleCampaign.aspx\">http:\/\/investinpusdkids.org\/8thGuidingPrincipleCampaign.aspx<\/a><\/li>\n<li>The State Budget campaign to make sure that the state legislature provides adequate funding for California\u2019s public schools in order to avoid traumatic cuts to basic school programs<\/li>\n<li>Meetings with elected officials in Pasadena, Sierra Madre, and Altadena to find more\u00a0 more ways for our cities to partner with our schools.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>According to Dawn O\u2019Keefe, a PUSD parent and IIPK steering committee member, \u201cThese are tough economic times, but we have incredible human and institutional resources in our three communities of Pasadena, Altadena and Sierra Madre.\u00a0 We urge people to join us at the Community Meeting and get involved.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The meeting will take place at the PUSD \u201cNo Boundaries\u201d Art Exhibition being held in the lovely gallery size space of the former Stein Mart Store in the Corner Bakery Plaza\u00a0 at 345 S.
