{"id":16981,"date":"2014-04-27T15:26:46","date_gmt":"2014-04-27T22:26:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sierramadrenews.net\/?p=16981"},"modified":"2014-04-29T18:17:03","modified_gmt":"2014-04-30T01:17:03","slug":"bailey-canyon-closed-during-police-investigation-possible-suicide-investigation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.sierramadrenews.net\/?p=16981","title":{"rendered":"Updated &#8211; Suicide Victim a Sierra Madre Resident"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Updated 5:30pm, 4\/28\/14 &#8211; <\/em>I just got off the phone with the LA Dept. of Coroner, who confirmed for me that the investigation into the incident at Bailey Canyon Park is closed. \u00a0Fifty-four year old Sierra Madre resident \u00a0and pilot James Cummiskey died from a self-inflicted gunshot. \u00a0More details can be found here:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.losangelesregister.com\/articles\/cummiskey-598474-sierra-park.html\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.losangelesregister.com\/articles\/cummiskey-598474-sierra-park.html<\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Updated at 5 15:pm &#8211; Press release from SMPD &#8211;\u00a0<\/em><strong>Death Investigation at Bailey Canyon Park.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Sierra Police Department is currently assisting with an investigation into the death of a 53 yr. old male at Bailey Canyon Park.\u00a0 Officers were dispatched to the area after several people reported a gunshot victim at the location.\u00a0 Upon the officers arrival at the scene they found the victim in the picnic area being treated by a doctor who was in the area.\u00a0 \u00a0Paramedics arrived on scene and pronounced the victim dead.\u00a0 A weapon was recovered at the scene and at this time it is being investigated as a suicide.\u00a0 Police Chief Giannone said <em>\u201cthis was an unfortunate tragedy for our community.\u00a0 The park was filled with visitors and hikers, several who witnessed this tragic incident\u201d.<\/em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The Los Angeles County Coroner\u2019s Office responded to the scene and took over the investigation.\u00a0 The victim\u2019s identity is being withheld pending notification to next of kin. Shortly after we received the above press release, the City tweeted: &#8220;Bailey Canyon Park will remain closed the rest of the day. The area will reopen tomorrow morning.
