Press Release posted 1\/26\/15<\/em> – Sierra Madre Chamber President Ed Chen and the Board of Directors announced on Friday, Jan. 9th, \u00a0the selection of VFW Post 3208 Commander Dave Loera as the 2014 Citizen of the Year.<\/p>\n

The COTY award is granted to an outstanding Sierra Madre resident who best demonstrates the town\u2019s spirit of volunteerism during the year. Loera\u2019s credentials are extensive. In addition to his VFW responsibilities, he currently serves on the Committee for Congresswoman Judy Chu in the collaboration between the Veteran\u2019s Administration Health Care System and Pasadena City College to establish a Veteran\u2019s Health Center in the San Gabriel Valley. He also serves on Assemblymember Chris Holden\u2019s Veteran\u2019s Advisory Committee.<\/p>\n

In Sierra Madre, Dave served as a Reserve Police Officer for 10 years; he has coached T-ball, Little League, Pony Colt Baseball and AYSO soccer. He is currently President of the St. Rita Men\u2019s Club and is Past President of the Sierra Madre Kiwanis Club.<\/p>\n

Cmdr. Loera has also been instrumental in getting the VFW to support the city\u2019s 4th of July Parade, raise funds for the maintenance of Dapper Field and with the replacement of the bleachers at Heasley Field. He has served on Sierra Madre\u2019s Utility User\u2019s Tax oversight committee and much more.<\/p>\n

The COTY dinner honoring Commander Loera will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2015 in The Sierra Madre Room, 611 E. Sierra Madre Blvd., Sierra Madre, Ca. Reception begins at 6:00 p.m. Dinner at 7:00 p.m. . Tickets are $30 per person\/Tables of 10 $275.00.<\/p>\n
