And for the thirteenth time in fourteen years, SMRFA\u2019s entry has won an award, this year The Director\u2019s Award, described by the Tournament as \u201cmost outstanding artistic design and use of floral and non floral materials.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Congratulations to the Sierra Madre Rose Float Association for winning AGAIN!<\/p>\n<p>In 2006, the \u201cWonder of Reading\u201d, designed by Charles Meier, took the Founder\u2019s Banner Trophy, for the most spectacular float built and decorated by volunteers from a community or organization. In 2007, \u201cOur Wonderful Wistaria\u201d designed by Charles Meier was the winner of the Lathrop K. Leishman Award, for most beautiful non-commercial float. 2008\u2019s \u201cValentine\u2019s Day\u201d, again designed by Charles Meier, won the Princesses\u2019 Award, for most beautiful float 35\u2032 and under. In 2009, SMRFA and Meier\u2019s streak continued with \u201cBollywood Dreams\u201d, which again brought home the Lathrop K. Leishman Award, for most beautiful non-commercial float. In 2010, \u201cCalifornia Girls\u201d, designed by Dick Sappington, won the Governor\u2019s Award for best depiction of life in California. Sierra Madre also got the Governor\u2019s Award in 2011 for \u201cSuenos de California\u201d, again designed by Meier.<\/p>\n<p>Gorgeous as it was, 2012\u2019s Colorful Imagination did not garner any awards, but 2013\u2019s \u201cThe Sky\u2019s the Limit\u201d put SMRFA back in the winner\u2019s circle, taking home the Mayor\u2019s Trophy. The Sky\u2019s the Limit was designed by Charles Meier from a concept drawing by Sierra Madre resident Maria Murray. In 2014, \u201cCatching the Big One\u201d was a winner. Charles Meier was once again the designer.<\/p>\n<p>In 2015, SMRFA\u2019s entry \u201cI Think I Can\u201d based on the little train that could, and dedicated to Robert Young, longtime president of SMRFA who passed away in July of 2014, won The Mayor\u2019s Trophy. The entry included the phrase \u201cForever Young\u201d at the back of the train in his honor. Then in 2016, \u201cRollin\u2019 on the River\u201d took the Animation Trophy, described by the Tournament as \u201cBest Animation and Motion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 2017, SMRFA did it again, with \u201cThe Cat\u2019s Away\u201d taking the Mayor\u2019s Trophy, for most outstanding float from a participating City! Last year\u2019s \u201cChivalry!\u201d took the Fantasy trophy for most outstanding display of fantasy and imagination.<\/p>\n<p>And now, in 2019, SMRFA takes home another!\u00a0 Congratulations SMRFA!!<\/p>\n<p>From SMRFA&#8217;s Facebook page re: when Harmony&#8217;s Garden will be in Kersting Court: &#8220;Following post-parade on Wednesday, January 2, we will be returning home to Sierra Madre and the float will once again be on display in Kersting Court (weather permitting, but that looks not to be an issue). Our estimated arrival to Kersting Court is between 6PM-7PM and I will post once en route and are coming back through town. We will remain there through the night and until late afternoon on Thursday, January 3.
