Mayor Buchanan presents commendation to retiring City Treasurer George Enyedi<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n

Posted 4\/28\/12 –<\/em> The reorganization of the City Council began with a tribute to outgoing City Treasurer George Enyedi, who served as the elected treasurer from 2008 \u2013 2012.\u00a0 George has also volunteered his time for many years to assist with City finances prior to being elected in 2008.\u00a0 Mayor Buchanan thanked George for his service “not only as an elected official, but also as an individual who has lent his time, in less high profile ways, contributing to the well-being of this community, meaning coming down and helping with the City finances and getting the checks processed and everything else, and in his spare time he’d bring his financial expertise to bear to help us as a volunteer when we needed such things, so he’s been there for many great community activities, and I don’t know if there’s a person in town more beloved in town than George Enyedi…”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

George has also been instrumental with the restoration of the Sierra Madre Playhouse and Sierra Madre\u2019s Pioneer Cemetery, having served on the Boards of Directors of both.\u00a0 He is a member of Kiwanis, and was honored in 2000 as the 1999 Citizen of the Year<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Shortly after George was recognized, Richard Mays, who served as Deputy Treasurer under Enyedi and who held the position of Treasurer from 2004 \u2013 2008, was sworn in as Treasurer for the next four years.\u00a0 Mays also sat on the UUT Oversight Committee, is a member of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), the SMPD Volunteer Force, and is Deputy Treasurer for the Sierra Madre Historical Preservation Society. He is also a retired 32-year volunteer veteran on the Sierra Madre Fire Department.\u00a0 Mays was also Citizen of the Year, for 2011<\/a><\/strong>.<\/div>\n
