He was 85 years old.<\/p>\n<p>Christopher was Secretary of State during the Clinton administration from 1993 &#8211; 1996, and played a key role in peace talks in Bosnia. As Deputy Secretary of State during the Carter administration, he negotiated the release of the hostages from Iran. He also headed the commission that investigated the riots after the Rodney King trial verdict, and supervised the Florida recount during the 2000 Bush\/Gore election contest.
