20-YEAR OLD AMERICAN CELLIST ALISA WEILERSTEIN MAKES HER LOS ANGELES ORCHESTRAL DEBUT

WITH THE LOS ANGELES CHAMBER ORCHESTRA

LACO HIGHLIGHTS THE WEST COAST PREMIERE OF BRITTEN’S DOUBLE CONCERTO

Music Director Jeffrey Kahane and the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra will present

the Los Angeles orchestral debut of the exciting 20-year old American cellist Alisa Weilerstein playing the Schumann Cello Concerto in A minor – Saturday, November 16, 8:00 PM

at the Alex Theatre in Glendale and Sunday, November 17, 7:00 PM at UCLA’s Royce Hall.

Ms. Weilerstein has won critical acclaim for playing that combines natural virtuosity with impassioned musicianship.  Described by The Strad as “an extremely charismatic artist” and Gramophone as “a remarkable young talent,” she performed last year with the San Francisco Symphony and the National Symphony Orchestra and embarked on a national tour with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center.  This busy young artist has also given recitals in seven celebrated concert halls throughout Europe as well as Carnegie Hall, Paris and Japan.

The November concerts also highlight the West Coast premiere of Britten’s Double Concerto in B minor for violin and viola with LACO’s own superstar soloists - concertmaster Margaret Batjer and principal violist Roland Kato.  The work was written in 1932 while Britten was a student at London’s Royal College of Music, but not printed or published until after his death.  Kent Nagano performed the Double Concerto at the Aldeburgh Festival in 1987 and recorded it in 1998.  The current edition was published in 1999 from the composer’s penciled short score.

The program covering works from three centuries includes Locatelli’s Concerto Grosso in F major for four violins with Josefina Vergara, Jennifer Munday, Susan Rishik and Connie Kupka.

Words on Music, ˝-hour talks on the evening concerts, will be presented by Music Director Jeffrey Kahane one hour before each performance.  Words on Music is free to all ticket holders.

Tickets are available from $15.00 to $63.00 with discounts for students, seniors and groups of ten or more.  Tickets may be purchased by phone (213) 622-7001, Ext. 215

or by fax (213) 955-2071, Monday through Friday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Yamaha is the official piano of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra and Wells Fargo

is an official sponsor of LACO.
