Sierra Madre Veteran's Memorial Wall Groundbreaking, Saturday, July 19, 2003

Veterans Wall Groundbreaking Held Saturday  Groundbreaking ceremonies for the Veterans Wall Memorial in Memorial Park, were held Saturday, July 19.  The ceremony began at about 10:30am. City Council member Doug Hayes introduced speakers Bart Doyle, Marine Colonel Joseph N. Smith, USMC (Ret.), Director of the Dept. of Military and Veterans Affairs for the County of Los Angeles, and John Grijalva, who spearheaded the drive for the creation of the wall.  The committee that worked on getting the approvals for and funding of the creation of the wall, as well as an online database of Sierra Madre veterans, took part in the ceremonial groundbreaking.  For more on the Veteran's Wall, including links to  downloadable forms for donating to the wall or participating in the online Sierra Madre veteran's database, click here.
