Sierra Madre Veteran's Memorial Wall Site Dedicated in Park, Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003

A crowd of several dozen turned out for the dedication of the Veteran's Memorial Wall Mayor Doug Hayes, City Manager Tamara Gates, and Councilman George Maurer were among the crowd representing the City as John Grijalva, who has spearheaded the effort for the wall, introduced several folks who have been instrumental in getting the wall approved and on its way.  Featured speaker was Col. Joseph N. Smith, USMC (Ret.), Director of the Dept. of Military and Veterans Affairs for the County of Los Angeles.  Col Smith (pictured above left with John Grijalva) noted that he has traveled far and wide and viewed numerous memorials, but that the Sierra Madre Wall, with its use of photos on stainless steel, is world class, and one of a kind; a tribute not only to the veterans of Sierra Madre, but to the City and people that are responsible for it.  Congratulations and kudos to John Grijalva and the people who've worked so hard to bring this project together.  The Committee has its own website, that will feature a searchable database of Sierra Madre veterans.  Visit it at www.sierramadreveterans.org.  You can download an Adobe formatted version of the form if you'd like to be included in the database here.  If you'd like to contribute, with a monetary donation of any amount, or by purchasing one of the commemorative bricks that will surround the wall, you can download that form here..  Click on a photo below to see it full size.
