Members of St. Rita's Boy Scout Troop 110 enjoy the flapjacks at the 2007 SMVFA annual Pancake Breakfast, this year set for May 17th. The whole town should really show up, after last weekend.

Past Winners of Citizen of the Year Award

The 37th Annual Chamber of Commerce Installation/Citizen of the Year Award Dinner was held at the 4 Points Sheraton Hotel in Monrovia, and this year featured a silent auction replacing the raffle.  Outgoing President Sue Levoe was honored, and appreciation was mentioned for outgoing Board members Moe Marshall and Steve Heydorff.  Installed were new Board members Patty Bellamy, Bill Coburn, George Lopez, Julia Rocks and Ben Smith, joining already seated members Karma Bell, Mike Harker, Karen Keegan, Sue Levoe, Jim Moran (President) and Maria Murray.  This year's Citizen of the Year Award was presented to SMVFD Engineer Bill Messersmith, a 30+ year member of the Sierra Madre Fire Dept., 11 year president of the SMVFA, and founding member of the Sierra Madre Community Foundation.  Click here to read more about the 2002 COY, Fireman Bill Messersmith.

Assemblyman Dennis Mountjoy salutes Bill's volunteerism

And presented a proclamation honoring Bill

As did a representative from Sen. Bob Margett's office.   Okay, I was a little slow with the shutter finger.

Rep. David Dreier's rep was there as well

Mayor Doug Hayes presented a City proclamation

When Bill was done speaking, he got a standing ovation

Okay, he wasn't quite done

Last year's COY Carol Canterbury and 1999 COY Judy Webb-Martin had something to pass on

Apparently, there's a hat for him to wear

Mayor Hayes mentions that Bill will be honored at the City Council meeting the following Monday, when he will offer tips on accessorizing

Bill seems to like that hat a little too much.  Chief Bailey and wife Linda look on

Videos from the dinner, they're dark because I was far away, but you can hear Bill talk, think of it as an audio file

Bill discusses what he would like to do differently

Bill discusses where his family belongs in his life, sorry the floppy wasn't long enough to record the story started at the end
