Members of St. Rita's Boy Scout Troop 110 enjoy the flapjacks at the 2007 SMVFA annual Pancake Breakfast, this year set for May 17th. The whole town should really show up, after last weekend.

829 Lb. Pumpkin Art by Kevin Switzer, for Sierra Madre Halloween Lovers

Kevin Switzer tells us he's been carving pumpkins for displays on Alegria for 30 years, and his father, Bud, (whose Alegria house is the setting for the display) did it for many years before that.  Ironically, Kevin is allergic to pumpkin.  This year, Switzer had planned to scale back from last year's extravaganza, and was planning to carve only about fifteen or so 200 lb. pumpkins for the front yard.  But then he received an 829 lb. (before carving) pumpkin, and so he set to work a little earlier, tackling a sun-like design which he intends to light up with 1500 watts of lighting.   Kevin is traveling to Alabama next week, and between getting ready for his trip, plans for an addition to the household, (there's a new little Switzer due in February), and  Halloween pumpkin carving, things are a little hectic on Alegria Ave and at Kevin's Monrovia home.  Kevin wanted to make sure that everyone knows there's more than just the Switzer pumpkins to see on Alegria, pointing out that the whole block gets in the spirit every year, dressing up their homes, and making the Halloween holiday a special event in Sierra Madre.
