Letter to the Editor re: Student Loan Apps

Posted 7/6/12 – Please forward this to anyone who might need to know… Monday my daughter sat down to renew her FAFSA for the fall semester (if you don’t have college kids yet this is the Federal student aid application that must be filed for any type of student aid to be considered).  She didn’t bookmark the site so she typed in

‘fafsa’.  The first site on Google is fafsa.com, where she began filling in all the familiar questions including social security numbers and income information for her and myself.  It wasn’t until the very end that we questioned any part of the application.  The site we were on required a $60 dollar processing fee to “review the application for any errors”. Weird!!! FAFSA IS FREE!!!  We would never have questioned this site if we hadn’t filed many FAFSA apps in the past!!!  So, forward this-

FAFSA.COM IS NOT THE GOVERNMENT SITE.  YOU NEVER HAVE TO PAY FOR FILING YOUR FAFSA. BE SURE YOU ARE ON THE FEDERAL SITE WHICH IS http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/
