Red Cross Blood Supply Still Fragile; Donors Needed

Press Release posted 8/24/12 – The emergency need for blood donors continues as effects of the worst summer blood shortage since 1996 persist. Southern California’s community blood supply remains in a fragile state and additional donations are needed to ensure an adequate supply is available through the end of the summer. Patients are counting on us. Please help – schedule your blood donation appointment today.

Donors of all blood types are needed, but eligible donors with blood type O negative, O positive, A negative or B negative are especially encouraged to give at this time. Anyone who gave blood at the start of summer may be eligible to donate again as summer comes to a close.

As a bonus, we have reinstated our double credit offer for all HerO donor loyalty program members. Donate now to earn double credit for your donations and apply them to get cool prizes. That means you can donate blood, platelets, or both and earn twice the rewards, now through August 28.

Please help us help those in need by scheduling an appointment now. You can make an even greater impact by bringing just two friends or family members to donate alongside you.

If you do not find a donation opportunity convenient to you, please call 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767) and one of our representatives will gladly assist you.

Donor eligibility involves minimum age, weight and health requirements. Donors must present a donor card, driver’s license or two other forms of ID prior to donation.
