At 2pm, a resident in the 300 block of Adams Avenue returned home and observed that her front door was open. She immediately notified police.  The investigation revealed that between the hours of 11am and 2pm, an unknown suspect entered the residence by smashing a rear french door window. The suspect(s) went through several rooms and thoroughly ransacked one of the bedrooms.  The victim was able to determine that jewelry, watches an IPad and an IPod were removed from the residence.

Overnight, an unknown suspect removed a guitar and amplifier from a vehicle parked in a driveway in the 300 block of Sierra Madre Boulevard.  The owner of the vehicle believed he had locked the vehicle, but there was no evidence of forced entry.

At 10pm, a major traffic collision took place at Santa Anita Avenue and Oakwood Avenue.  A red Jeep travelling south in the northbound lanes of Santa Anita Avenue collided with a vehicle turning left onto Oakwood  from southbound Santa Anita Avenue.  The impact caused the Jeep to flip over on its side and slide several yards further south on Santa Anita Avenue.  When emergency units arrived the driver of the Jeep was unconscious and trapped inside.  Emergency crews required 45 minutes to extract him from the vehicle.  He was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital for treatment.  Two occupants of the other vehicle were seriously injured but a passenger in the rear seat survived without injury. Shortly before the collision, a witness observed the Jeep travelling north on Santa Anita Avenue at a high rate of speed and passing vehicles on the right. The investigation is continuing.

A resident in the 00 block of Auburn Avenue returned home from vacation and found damage to the rear door of the house.  There was evidence that an intruder had entered the residence by prying the door with a tool, but the victim did not detect that any property was removed.  The observations of a witness indicate that crime may have occurred during the evening of June 26, 2013.

At 6:45pm, an altercation took place inside the Mountain View Sushi Restaurant at 24 West Sierra Madre Boulevard.  A dispute between a patron and an employee took place which escalated into a physical fight.  The parties sustained minor injuries and a window was broken during the short fight.  Both parties requested a private person’s arrest against the other and they were processed on the charge of Battery.

A resident in the 100 block of West Grandview Avenue reported that property had been stolen from her residence over a period of months.  The resident had been slowly moving into her house and did not conclude that the property was missing until she had completed unpacking.  During the move in period, the owner had construction and paint contractors in her home on several occasions.

A similar crime was reported by a resident in the 400 block of Fairview Terrace.  Starting in mid-February, construction was taking place at the location.  When the construction concluded, the resident discovered his cameras were missing from his guest room.  During construction that room was unsecured and just sealed off from the construction area with plastic liner. The construction contractors working at these locations are not related.

At approximately 2am, units on patrol observed a vehicle stopped in the roadway in the 200 block of Mariposa Avenue.  The lights were on and the engine was running.  When they approached, the officers found the driver unconscious at the wheel.   It was determined that the individual (male 43 years of age) had been drinking heavily and he was subsequently booked for DUI.

At 9pm, officers responded to the 200 block of Mariposa Avenue to investigate a report of a battery.  A male and a female, who have a dating relationship, got into a verbal argument about child visitation matters.  The male alleged that at one point, the female struck him in the face with an open hand.  The female denied this and was supported by another adult witness at the location.  Additionally there was no visible injury evident.  The investigation was referred for detective follow up.

Overnight, an unknown suspect entered a vehicle parked in a driveway in the 400 block of Grove Street and rummaged through the interior.  Once inside, the suspect was also able to access the vehicle trunk and remove items from that area.  The suspect took small items of value and left the scene without being seen.  There was no sign of forced entry into the vehicle and the owner admitted that he had not locked the car that night.

At 6pm, a traffic collision occurred in the intersection of Oak Crest Drive and Deodar Circle.  A vehicle exiting the Deodar Circle cu-de-sac, failed to yield to a vehicle travelling north on Oak Crest Circle.  The parties sustained minor injuries and both vehicles were towed from the scene.

At 2pm, units responded to a report of a kidnapping at Kersting Court.  On arrival officers determined that the matter was not a kidnap, but was a fight between a father and daughter.   The two were travelling in a vehicle when they became engaged in a verbal argument.  At one point, the daughter attempted to exit the vehicle while it was still moving.  In response the father used physical force to prevent her from doing so.  A battery report was completed and the investigation into the matter is continuing.

At 3:45am, a resident in the 700 block of West Sierra Madre Boulevard observed a suspicious vehicle parked in an apartment carport.  The vehicle doors were open and the lights were on.  He immediately notified police of the situation.  As officers arrived at the location, they observed a female (suspect) standing at a carport storage compartment that had both doors open. The individual was detained and officers determined that a large amount of property was stacked on the ground a short distance away. It was determined that the suspicious vehicle belonged to the suspect  and it contained a large amount of property as well.  Also found in the vehicle was the suspect’s 8 month old son. It was determined that the suspect had been rummaging through a number of carport storage compartments, removing property and loading the items into her vehicle.  During a search of the vehicle, methamphetamine was found and it was determined that the suspect was currently on probation for Burglary.  An arrest was made and the District Attorney’s Office subsequently filed counts of Burglary, Possession of Narcotics and Child Endangerment on the suspect. The child was released to the care of the Department of Children’s services.

A 7pm, an individual in Bailey Canyon Park observed a female who appeared distraught. On closer examination he noticed that the female was bleeding from her wrists and he immediately notified police.  When officers arrived, the female stated that she was depressed, did not want to live anymore and admitted that she had intentionally cut her wrists.  Fire Department personnel provided emergency medical treatment and subsequently transported her to Arcadia Methodist Hospital.

A resident in the 200 block of East Orange Grove Avenue came home at approximately 11pm and immediately went to bed, leaving a rear sliding glass door unsecured.  When he awoke the next morning, he noticed the sliding glass door was open and his lap top computer missing from a table adjacent to that door.  No other items were disturbed and there was no evidence that the suspect entered any further into the residence.

Overnight, an unknown vehicle collided with another vehicle parked at the curb in the 200 block of North Sunnyside Avenue.  The driver drove from the scene without identifying himself and there were no witnesses to the incident.  The parked vehicle sustained minor damage.   

Wednesday, June 5, 2013

At 9am, a City employee was working in Bailey Canyon.  When he returned to his work truck he found the right side door partially open and a handheld water meter reading device was missing.  No witnesses were located.

At 6:45 pm a vehicle versus bicycle traffic collision occurred in the intersection of Grandview Avenue and Auburn Avenue.  The bicyclist was travelling eastbound, came to a stop at Auburn Avenue and then proceeded into the intersection.  The vehicle, travelling northbound had also come to a stop but did not yield to the bicyclist in the intersection. The bicyclist sustained a minor abrasion to his right knee.

At approximately 1pm, a traffic collision occurred in the intersection of Baldwin Avenue and Montecito Avenue.  A vehicle travelling east on Montecito Avenue made a right turn onto Baldwin Avenue and collided with the rear of another vehicle that had braked abruptly for another vehicle.  Vehicle damage was minor but one party complained of pain to the right knee.

Overnight, an unknown suspect forced entry into a vehicle parked at the curb in the 100 block of Esperanza Drive.  The suspect smashed the left side window with an unknown object and removed a suitcase from the rear seat.

A resident from the 400 block of East Highland Avenue reported that her house had been burglarized during a four day span that she was away.  The investigation revealed unknown suspect(s) entered the residence through an unlocked side door and accessed selective areas of the house. The suspect(s) removed several pieces of heirloom silverware and cash.

During the evening hours, an unknown suspect entered a residence in the 100 block of North Sunnyside Avenue and removed jewelry from a bedroom drawer. The resident was away at the time and discovered the crime when she returned at 1am.  The investigation revealed the suspect entered the residence through an unlocked door and removed property from the bedroom.

Overnight, an unknown suspect entered a vehicle parked in a driveway in the 2000 block of Liliano Drive by smashing the left rear passenger window.  A gym bag and a small amount of coins were removed.

At 8:15pm, a black Volkswagon was travelling west on Orange Grove Avenue and was observed making an erratic right turn onto Mountain Trail Avenue.  At  the conclusion of the turn, the vehicle struck the east curb, traveled onto the lawn and collided with a traffic sign.  The driver stopped momentarily then drove back onto the street and continued north on Mountain Trail Avenue.  A witness described the driver as a female white with blond shoulder length hair.   At the time she was making the turn, the driver appeared to be looking down at a cell phone.  Collision debris was recovered at the site indicating that the Volkswagon would have damage to the front bumper area.

At approximately 10pm, unknown suspects burglarized a residence in the 200 block of South Sunnyside Avenue.  The suspects climbed over a locked side gate and entered the garage through an unlocked side door.  Access to the main residence was then accomplished through a dog door inside the garage. The suspect(s) ransacked the interior, removed property and exited via the front door. No witnesses were located.
