VFW Post Commander Dave Loera salutes as Paul Puccinelli performs Taps at 2011 Memorial Day service

Press Release posted 4/27/14 – Archbishop José Gomez will celebrate the canonization of Blessed Popes John Paul II and John XXIII on Sunday, April 27, at 3:30 p.m. with a special Mass of Thanksgiving at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angeles, 555 W. Temple St. The Los Angeles Council of Religious Leaders will join the faithful of Los Angeles to commemorate this historic event.

The multilingual Mass includes music performed by Italian and Polish soloists, in honor of both Popes, and the Cathedral Choir.  There are two cantors, one Italian and one Polish in honor of the two new saints, at this Mass. (Paul Puccinelli, Music Director of St. Rita Church, is the Italian cantor invited to sing at this special Mass.)

The Mass coincides with the canonization earlier that day in Rome of Blessed Pope John XXIII, who was pope from 1958-1963, and Blessed Pope John Paul II, who was pope from 1978-2005, the second longest-serving Pope in history.

A special chapel containing images and relics of the two newest saints will be available for viewing by the public as well inside the Cathedral. Visit http://www.archla.org/live for a live webcast of the Mass of Thanksgiving. (Note link may not work until webcast is live).
