Posted 6/18/12 – The post parade Community Picnic scheduled for July 4th has changed venue this year, moving from Memorial Park to Sierra Vista Park.  This allows for a lot more activities, since the pool will be open for free swim, there are baseball fields and basketball courts, tennis courts and, thanks to a generous donation by the Sierra Madre Community Foundation, a newly refurbished volleyball court (see pictures below).  There will be a water balloon toss, a shoe toss (?), and a sack race.  There will be a “Family Game Area” where anyone can pick up and start playing: bocce ball, croquet, volleyball, basketball (4th of July Committee will supply the equipment/games).  There will be an obstacle course bounce house, a water play area with water guns and ballons, and a Home Run Derby!

Gem City Jazz Cats will be performing big band and swing hits, and the Chamber will have its dunk tank with local “celebs” available for your dunking pleasure.  The Little League Diner will be open, and you can order up barbecued burgers and dogs if you choose not to bring your own picnic with you.  The Beer Garden will also be open.  And Civic Club, which began selling confetti eggs at 4th of July celebrations in 1973, at Sierra Vista Park, will again have their confetti eggs for your kids to smash in your hair…

Years ago, the community picnic was always at Sierra Vista, but was changed to Memorial Park.  The 4th of July Committee has decided to bring the picnic back to its roots, and invites everyone in the community to spend July 4th down at the Park.
