City Closes Mountain Recreation Areas, Cites Fire Danger

Press Release posted 4/30/14 – Due to the Red Flag conditions and high fire danger City Officials along with the Department of Forestry have decided to keep the local mountain recreation areas closed until Friday for the public’s safety. Santa Anita Canyon Road, Chantry Flats, Bailey Canyon Park, and Mount Wilson Trail will remain closed until 6:00 AM on Friday Morning. The hope is to restore access to the area in time for the weekend. Six years ago this month, with similar weather conditions, the hills above Sierra Madre burnt. This is just a grim reminder on how fast these events happen even in our own community. Public safety is our number one priority. We appreciate the community’s understanding to the inconvenience.
