Alverno Softball Ends Season as Undefeated League Champions , Rodriguez Hits Three Homers, Gets 10 RBIs

Press Release posted 5/11/15 – The Alverno High School Varsity Softball defeated Ramona Convent 18-10 in the final game of the Horizon League season. With a League record of 10-0, the Jaguars are the undefeated victors of the Horizon League and are headed to the CIF Southern Section for the 18th time in 20 years.

Cailen Rodriguez hit three home runs to carry the Jaguars to an 18-10 win over Ramona Convent in seven innings. Rodriguez racked up 10 RBIs on five hits for the Jagaurs. She singled in the first inning, doubled in the third inning, and homered in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings.

Offense was not hard to come by on Thursday, as both teams combined for 28 runs and 28 hits, including 11 extra base hits.

Alverno beat Ramona Convent thanks to 18 hits, including seven extra base hits. Alverno scored five runs in the sixth on a groundout by Katie Taix, a three-run home run by Rodriguez, and a walk by Natalie Scigliano.

Additional home runs for Alverno came when Julia Goss homered in the fourth inning and Rodriguez homered in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings.

The win made the Jaguars the undefeated Horizon League Champions. They will be heading to the CIF Southern Section Championships for the 18th time in 20 years. Alverno High School is the only school in the West San Gabriel Valley to have won two CIF Softball Championships in 1981 and 2004.
