Pedestrian Hit by Car at Kersting Court

Posted 12/1/12 – A female pedestrian was struck by a car in the crosswalk on Baldwin Ave. at Kersting Court early yesterday morning, and sustained a broken leg and a laceration on her head.  According to Sgt. Gonzalez of SMPD, the male driver of the vehicle was heading southbound on Baldwin Ave. and as he slowed to make the turn, he checked his rear view mirror to make sure no one was coming up too fast behind him in the rain.  When he looked back to where he was going, he discovered a pedestrian in the cross walk, and was unable to stop in time to avoid hitting her.  The driver was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

  1. Perhaps this was just a fluke, but I have seen many near accidents of this nature in a few if the crosswalks in town. People need to slow down and maybe it wouldn’t hurt to put a few stop signs at the busier cross walks.
