(5/7/04) Noreen Berra, Local Attorney/Business Owner Honored as Alumna of The Year by Southwestern University School of Law  Noreen Berra, a resident of Sierra Madre and the owner of Sierra Madre's JailHouse Inn Bed & Breakfast, was honored by the Alumni Association of Southwestern University School of Law as "2004 Alumna of the Year" at a reception held on April 23 in the school's historic Bullocks Wilshire building.  Berra currently serves as general counsel for the Greater Orange County Medical Group and all affiliated medical groups. A 1972 graduate of the University of California, Santa Barbara, she began her career with Security Pacific Bank, where she rose to become assistant vice president of recruitment, selection and placement of all management personnel for the Southern California branches. She was the first woman to hold that position. She left Security Pacific to attend law school at Southwestern.  While a law student, Ms. Berra served as president of the Student Bar Association and founded the Student Mentor Program. She was a 1984-85 Bradley Scholar and a recipient of the Dean's Scholarship for Outstanding Service to Southwestern that same year.  Following graduation from Southwestern in 1985, Ms. Berra joined the California Attorney General's Office, where she became supervising deputy attorney general for the Appeals, Writs & Trial Division and headed the Recruitment and Selection function for the Los Angeles office. She later founded the temporary law placement firm of Berra & Associates.  Throughout her career as an attorney in both the public and corporate sectors, Berra has been the consummate volunteer. She has served Southwestern's Alumni Association in many capacities, including a two-year term as president, and developed many opportunities that increased alumni involvement. Her leadership was instrumental in establishing a number of major projects and programs, including the Alumni Resource Network. The Network brings together more than 340 alumni who help Southwestern students transition from law school to legal practice. Ms. Berra also serves as a consultant in Southwestern's Career Services Office.  A woman of many talents, Ms. Berra is a member of the Screen Actors Guild. She has appeared in several commercials and television programs and served as a legal technical advisor.  Congratulations Noreen!  Photos courtesy of Southwestern University School of Law Alumni Association.
