Members of St. Rita's Boy Scout Troop 110 enjoy the flapjacks at the 2007 SMVFA annual Pancake Breakfast, this year set for May 17th. The whole town should really show up, after last weekend.

Making of a Self-Built Float, part one

Making of a Self-Built Float, part two

December 30th, 2007 - both columns

They're starting to put the garland on the swan's neck

Lots of progress made since we last saw the water fountains in part 2

Here's those petals we saw in part 1

The Making of a Self-Built Float, Part 3 Third part of a three part series on the making of the 2008 Sierra Madre Rose Float By Bill Coburn

Sierra Madre’s float has won (major) awards three consecutive years. Sierra Madre’s float has been designed by Charles Meier three consecutive years. This ain’t coincidence folks. Much credit goes to Meier’s designs, and the hard work he puts in to make the vision a reality. And credit also goes to the SMRFA, which, over the last 4 years, has made a concerted effort to take the float to a new level, and it has paid off, having won three awards in a row validates the effort made by the Association. There is a core group that works on the float all year long (see next paragraph), with lots of volunteers coming in as needed as the Parade approaches. SGV Weekly congratulates all those who contributed their time, effort, money and product to this year’s float. And we remember Knar, to whom this float is dedicated.

2009 Float Preparations Already Under Way

From Don Mills, VP of the SMRFA: Though we are proudly celebrating our Princess Award for Valentine’s Day, the preparation for the 2009 parade must start. Designs for our 2009 design contest are due Friday, January 11th. Tournament Theme: “Hats Off to Entertainment” or “Salute to Entertainment.” The more designs submitted, the more choices we have to pick an award winner. All of the necessary design forms are available on our website: www.sierramadrerosefloat.org

The business of fundraising is never-ending

Source of much of the greens...

The finished garland...it's gorgeous, isn't it?
