The fourth annual Sierra Madre Relay for Life took place beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday the 13th and continuing through 9 a.m. on the 14th. Opening and Closing Ceremonies, a Luminary Service, live entertainment, karaoke, and movies overnight were part of the festivities.
ACS Relay For Life Raises More Than $108,000 To Fight Cancer This weekend's Sierra Madre ACS Relay For Life had raised more than $108,000 as of 7:50 am on Sunday, and the event was still going on at that time. ACS President Susan Clifton stated that she anticipated passing $110,000 by the time the event was over. Leading the way was the Civic Club Team, raising more than $10,800. In second place was the Sierra Madre Elementary School Team, which raised more than $7,800, followed by St. Rita's Team, which brought in just over $7,400. There were 21 registered teams listed in the program. In addition to the money raised by teams, additional funding came from corporate sponsors, local merchant sponsors, local families, and the sale of Luminarias, dedicated to cancer victims, both survivors and those who were unable to defeat the disease.
