Cyber Celebration SM Elementary School Fundraiser at La Salle, Mar. 8, 2003 Nearly 200 people turned out at LaSalle to help raise funds for a computer lab to be installed in Sierra Madre Elementary School's soon to be refurbished grounds.  Sierra Madre restaurants Restaurant Lozano, K's Deli, Sweet Taste Pastry, were among those who provided food for the event.  There were dozens of items for sale in the silent auction, and another several items were auctioned off in a live auction.  Master of Ceremonies Al Nocita conducted the live auction, and kept the auction closings on schedule.  Entertainment was provided by Cynthia and the Sweet Potatoes, three of whose members were remembered by some in attendance as members of the 80s band "Mick Manz and the Cocktails."  The top item auctioned off in the live auction, a custom designed barbecue for installation in the winning bidder's yard, was sold to "the Kims" for a whopping $2,000.  Among those in attendance were Mayor Doug Hayes, Fire Capt. Rich Snyder, City Council member Tonja Torres and her PTA president husband Steve Torres, Rotary Pres. Dan Alle, SM Comm. Foundation President Jay Whitcraft, SM Rose Float Assn. President Robert Young, PUSD School Board member Dr. Susan Kane, and a host of faculty and administrators from Sierra Madre school, including SME's popular principal, Ty Gaffney.  We are expecting word shortly on the total amount raised.
