California’s Second Oldest Trail Race - 100 Years Of The Mount Wilson Trail Race

Back to Trail Race Main Page

The Mount Wilson Trail Race is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year!  The Trail Race will occur on Saturday, May 24, 2008 at 7:30am sharp.  The 8.6 mile which starts and ends in Kersting Court, is run along the Mt. Wilson Trail to Orchard Camp, which used to serve as the rest point between Sierra Madre and the top of Mt. Wilson. Participants will climb over 2,100 vertical feet along the single-track trail and then come back down again, for a total distance of 8.6 miles. The trail promises to be challenging for even the fittest runner.

On Friday, May 23, 2008 there is a pre-race Pasta Load Party.  A pasta dinner will be served, provided by Café 322, in Kersting Court from 6:00pm-8:00pm for $6.75.  Pre-registration will also take place at the pasta feed where participants can pick up their race number and t-shirt.

New for this year is a Family Award category.  Participants can team with other family members and compete for the Family Award.  The combined time of the each family team will be calculated and the lowest average time will take home the prize!

Registration forms are now available at the Community and Personnel Services Department at 611 E. Sierra Madre Blvd., Sierra Madre, CA 91024 City Hall, Run With Us-Pasadena, Lucky Baldwin’s Delirium Café and Café 322 and online at www.mountwilsontrailrace.com. All entries are due by Monday, May 12, 2008. This race will be sold out, so get your entry in early!

The Trail Race sells out every year, so be sure to register early!

TRAINING

Start training for the 2008 Mount Wilson Trail Race. This is your chance to achieve an impressive athletic feat and celebrate the 100th anniversary of the race. To help you get started, Coach Eric LeClair and Elite Fitness Bootcamp/TEAM Crossfit will be offering free Saturday Morning Trail Training. Training begins in Kersting Court each Saturday at 7:00 a.m.

CELEBRATE

The post-race festivities will be held in Kersting Court, and will offer an open air beer garden, as well as, vendor booths and a children’s art exhibit. Local restaurants will open early to accommodate hungry race supporters, some offering outdoor sidewalk café style dining.

DONATIONS/SUPPORT

Challenged by miles of rugged terrain male and female runners, ten to eighty years old, from across the nation are attracted to this unique historical event. Critical to the success of the race is the community support and thousands of volunteer hours donated before and during the race. The Mt. Wilson Trail Race Committee prides itself in its use of volunteers. With over twenty years of experience more than one hundred dedicated volunteers, from safety personnel to youth scouts awaken before dawn to assist with the race.

There are several opportunities to offer support: 1) donating a cash contribution to assist with major prizes and medals, 2) donating one or more gift certificates to be awarded to Sierra Madre overall winners, 3) donating in-kind products and/or services to be a part of the much-anticipated raffle drawing. All supporters will be acknowledged during the race and in the official race brochure.

If you are able to, take this opportunity to participate as a Mt. Wilson Trail Race supporter.  Please send your contributions to:
